In Vorderstoder (Upper Austria), a large mongrel dog snapped. When a child “got in the way” of the four-legged friend while he was being fed, the year-old suffered a serious head injury.
The grandparents were visiting the family when the accident happened. At around 6:15 p.m., the grandfather was in the kitchen preparing a treat for his Appenzell Labrador dog. The one-and-a-half-year-old grandson was in the bathroom with Mom getting ready for bed, so he was out of harm’s way. But then the boy ran back into the kitchen.
Probably to defend his food
At that point, the dog, described as good-natured, suddenly snapped, probably defending its food. He caught the boy on the head and seriously injured him. The child was taken to the hospital in Kirchdorf by the emergency doctor.
