The planned sale of the fertilizer division of Borealis to the Czech Agrofert group has regularly put the location in Upper Austria in the spotlight in recent months: Now the focus is back on the plant. Reason: Borealis is also reducing production here due to the high gas costs.
On Friday it was announced that Lenzing AG has registered employees for short-time working at its location in Heiligenkreuz (Burgenland) and that production there will be significantly reduced. The consequences of the high gas costs are now also becoming visible in Upper Austria. For example, Borealis inhibits or stops the production of plant nutrients at various locations in Europe.
The fertilizer factory in the chemical park in Linz, which is sold to the Agrofert group, is also affected by these measures. According to Borealis, the move is “for economic reasons”. They don’t want to reveal more details at this time, except that these steps are currently visible throughout the industry. In Linz alone, Borealis employs about 700 people in the fertilizer sector.
