Energy prices soar – hoteliers worry: “It’s going to be an avalanche of costs”

Date:

Due to the many crises, there is now an increasing demand for help from the economy. Hoteliers are also heavily burdened by the rising prices. According to a survey, hotels expect electricity and heating costs to double in the current year. In addition to high energy costs, however, prices for food, drink, interest and wages continue to rise.

“It will be an avalanche of costs that we have not seen before,” Walter Veit, president of the Austrian Hotel Association (ÖHV), said in a broadcast on Thursday.

Energy price brake requested by politicians for all customers
Veit demands an energy price brake for all political customers. Although it was decided on Wednesday to impose an electricity price brake for households, there is still no solution for the economy.

The hotel industry should not be saddled with “the brunt of a crisis for the third winter in a row,” Veit continued. The service sector is already very energy efficient, accounting for only 10 percent of total energy consumption.

World Cup tourism chairman Robert Seeber had insisted on measures for the companies after the decision was made on Wednesday to provide shelter for households.

Cry for help from the craftsmen: “The cost is unbearable!”
As early as Tuesday, carpenters, painters and varnishes from the Trade and Crafts Department of the Economic Chamber (WKÖ) appealed to the federal government for energy support. Master of the painters’ guild Andreas Denner emphasized: “These cost increases are no longer sustainable and cannot be passed on to customers, as they themselves are greatly burdened by the price increases.”
