Declaration of war – Ikea and XXXLutz: New duel of the furniture giants

Date:

How the furniture store giants Ikea and XXXLutz are now competing for the top position in Austria and internationally.

It was a challenge that made Ikea Austria boss Alpaslan Deliloglu sit up last week and take note: “We want to become the market leader and expand!”

Delologlu wants to reach his goal “in three years”. This should be achieved by, for example, building more plan workshops (for example for kitchens), smaller planning stations and collection stations in addition to the current eight furniture stores.

Internet business is also promoted. Ikea already generates almost a third of its turnover online. A new app is also planned, where customers can scan their own apartment with their mobile phone and then furnish it with Ikea furniture on the screen.

Thomas Saliger, company spokesperson for the furniture giant XXXLutz, picks up the gauntlet: “We are way ahead in Austria!” The industry assumes that the XXXLutz brand alone generates a turnover of more than a billion euros. The Möbelix and Mömax brands also belong to the group from Wels. The total market share is therefore around 30%.

The chain, owned by the oo. The Seifert entrepreneurial family has been growing rapidly for years. It is already active in 13 European countries (total revenue: 5.4 billion euros). Recently, for example, there has been strong growth in Germany and Switzerland. According to Saliger, XXXLutz scores with a wider reach than its rival. Conversely, they are on their way to knock Ikea off the throne in Germany. And XXXLutz is even represented in Sweden.
