A tank of 50 liters would then cost 4 to 4.50 euros more due to the price increase. Many therefore took the opportunity to refuel. “Currently, two to three times the daily amount is sold,” emphasizes Doppler boss Bernd Zierhut (tower oil). The logistics can’t keep up, tank depots are almost empty in some cases.
Fuel that is stored must not become more expensive
The ÖAMTC emphasizes that the tax can only be levied on fuel delivered in October. What is already at the gas stations should not actually be sold for a higher price. It remains to be seen whether this has also penetrated the mineral oil companies.
The CO2 tax should have come into effect in July, but was postponed as a measure against inflation. Most recently, after another postponement, the voices got louder again. Particularly sharp criticism came from Lower Austria and Burgenland.
“Absurd and irresponsible”
Udo Landbauer, state party and club president of the FPÖ in the Lower Austrian state parliament, spoke of an “attack on the wallets of compatriots”. The turquoise-green federal government, largely made up of people from the ÖVP Lower Austria, is sticking to its plan and pushing prices at the pump even further, complained SPÖ Lower Austria traffic spokesman Gerhard Razborcan.
The governor of Burgenland, Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), also reiterated his call for suspension of the CO2 tax on Wednesday. “In this crisis situation, artificially increasing energy costs instead of lowering them is absurd and simply irresponsible. Sticking to the date of implementation of the carbon tax only shows how far the black-green federal government has strayed from the realities of people’s lives,” he said.
