According to a study, PC sales fell more in the third quarter than in nearly 30 years. From July to September, 68 million units were shipped worldwide, consultancy Gartner announced on Tuesday. That is a decrease of almost 20 percent compared to the same period last year.
“While supply chain disruptions have finally eased, high inventory levels have become a major problem given weak demand for PCs in both the consumer and business markets,” said Gartner analyst Mikako Kitagawa.
Back-to-school sales ended “with disappointing results, despite massive promotions and price cuts, as many consumers had bought new PCs in the past two years and didn’t need to.”
According to the research, Lenovo remains the market leader with a market share of approximately 25 percent. HP and Acer suffered the largest revenue declines, dropping nearly 28 percent and nearly 26 percent, respectively.
