In addition to the climate bonus and inflation correction, a third financial injection from the federal government is now also paid out, namely an extraordinary one-off payment for pensioners. But the minimum pensioners are especially annoyed by the low benefits.
It is not about the climate bonus, but about the extra “one-off payment for pensioners”. Many were angry on September 1. Because instead of a climate bonus of €500 (which will only come in the course of September), they only received a smaller amount transferred to their account.
But this is the extraordinary one-time senior benefit that you get on top of it. This is also up to €500, but with a major drawback: the maximum of €500 is only available between €1,200 and €1,800 gross pension. The payout is then looped “up and down”. People with a very low or high pension receive less.
“Outrageous and a scandal”
Retiree representatives are outraged: “This is antisocial and, given the horrendous inflation, which affects the lowest incomes hardest, actually a scandal,” said Andreas Wolmuth of the Pensioners’ Association (SPÖ). The Ministry of Finance explains it this way: The payment is a copy of the cost of living for employees. Minimally retired people receive less because they also pay less social security. It is emphasized that they receive the cost of living of €300, which people with a higher pension are not entitled to.
