On Monday there was a dramatic incident with the cart cable car in Dornbirn: a gust of wind tore the ropes from the lead, the railway stood still. 19 Passengers had to be caught from a hut. But why was the railway still in use at the moment?
It was a high dramatic hours that followed a violent storm front in Vorarlberg around 3 p.m. On Monday afternoon. 19 people and a dog were stuck in the Dornbirn Car ropes.
Seven -hour fear
This was followed by a technically extremely demanding rescue operation of the stuck passengers, who were contacted every 15 minutes by the crisis intervention team. An emergency doctor and a mountain rescue were removed by helicopter on the gondel roof, followed by the abseilation of the individual passengers. All in all, the campaign went on until 10 p.m., so passengers had to worry about seven hours. Fortunately, nobody was injured, the atmosphere in the cabin was “wise to be tuned”.
“Was not predictable”
The thunderstorm was no surprise, but predicted by weather services. Nevertheless, the train was still driving at the moment. Why? Mayor Markus Fässler explained that it was the last ride of the train, after which the company should have been hired – because of the approaching storm. The gust of wind that had left the ropes was not predictable in this form and also wiped over Dornbirn for the real thunderstorm. Just like the statements of Herbert Kaufmann, director of the cable car: the employees had worked correctly, the weather was closely observed that the sudden gust was not to be expected.
Train is currently closed
In any case, the railway stands still, the Re -repair will probably take a few days. The huts must be pulled into the departments and the heavy ropes must be lifted back into the pipe.
