The CEO of Iberdrola Spain, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, has defended that one “direct route” to electrification because “the economy needs it”, and considers it important to “mark” objectives.. Moreover, it has emphasized that it is necessary “accelerate” the energy transition.
These reflections were made in the context of the conference “Euskadi to the Future – Etorkizunerantz”organized by Europa Press and held at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao.
In his speech, Mario Ruiz-Tagle recalled that Iberdrola started more than two decades ago with a “very clear” vision that the existing energy model ushered in “certain and serious disruptions in the world of environment and climate”.
The head of Iberdrola pointed out that in this context the invasion of Ukraine by Russia arose and “weaknesses” who were not observed and has confirmed that the war has revealed, not only the need for energy transition from a climate action point of view, but also other concepts such as autonomy, self-reliance and independence as “a very important element”.
In order for all this to work, it is necessary, according to him “speed up the pace” and he believes this is the “big lesson” learned at this point. In this sense, he pointed out that Spain has some advantages because they are there wind, water and sun.
On the other hand, after underlining Iberdrola’s commitment to the Basque Country, with 600 suppliers and purchases of 1,700 million, he stated that all “clean ways” of energy creation.
