Mahrer advance: – In the case of gas, a German solution for us?

Date:

As the Austrian government tries to mitigate the impact of sky-high energy prices on the economy, Europe is in danger of a fiasco. WKÖ chairman Harald Mahrer: “A uniform solution for Europe would be best, but it doesn’t look like that at all. The Germans are now continuing with their own gas price brake, which should apply until 2024.”

The model for this seems to be the Austrian electricity price model, where 70 percent is billed at a flat rate, the rest through the market. Mahrer: “If Austria doesn’t do anything with gas, it will cost thousands and thousands of jobs, that just shouldn’t happen.”

“Copy of the German model as a survival aid”
Therefore: if there is no European solution, then at least a copy of the German model would be a tool for survival. Mahrer: “We need that quickly and as unbureaucratically as possible.”

Since Austrian companies often act as suppliers to German industry, the costs must also be right.
