Saving instead of accelerating – Nine out of ten drivers change their behaviour

Date:

Sliding instead of rushing and walking instead of driving – the high fuel price makes it possible. According to a survey commissioned by the VCÖ, nine out of ten drivers have changed their behaviour: 47 percent drive more economically, 45 percent now walk shorter distances more often and 30 percent cycle more often. One in five tries to avoid travel, for example by working from home.

According to the VCÖ, it is striking that while walking was the most frequently mentioned measure in the provincial capitals, an above-average number of people in the small towns use the bicycle as a cheap alternative to the car.

‘Austrians react smart’
“A liter of Eurosuper currently costs about 1.76 euros, 28 cents more than before the start of the Russian war of aggression, diesel costs 54 cents more for two euros,” calculates VCÖ expert Michael Schwendinger and praises the learning ability of the Austrians and the Austrians. who responded ‘sensibly’ to the price increases. It is now important to support the population in their willingness to change mobility behaviour.
