Inflation in Austria continued to climb in September, climbing 10.5 percent into double digits for the first time in 70 years. A sharper rise in consumer prices was last measured in July 1952.
Compared to the previous month of August, the average price level has risen by 1.6 percent, Statistics Austria announced on Wednesday. “At that time, inflation was 14.1 percent,” says CEO Tobias Thomas.
So, inflation has risen every month so far this year. There were always new records: in August and July inflation was 9.3 percent. In June it was 8.7 percent, in May 8.1 percent, in April 7.2 percent and in March 6.8 percent. In February and January it was 5.9 and 5 percent respectively, marking highs since 1984 in the first two months of the year.
