A recent study by the Labor Chamber shows an enormous price increase for the cheapest food and cleaning products: for a shopping basket that is composed accordingly, you already have to pay on average more than 13 percent more than last summer, four out of five products are acutely affected. “And this price increase is unfortunately not the end yet, due to the current scarcity of feed and fertilizers, a further increase can be assumed,” says Rainer Will, director of the German trade association, in “Wanted” with Gerhard Koller.
The lack of grain and wheat exports from Russia and Ukraine will have a parallel effect on prices, as will the rising energy costs for food production. “There’s nothing nice to talk about,” says Will, who generally speaks of a currently rather reserved buying mood. The war in Ukraine, which puts a lot of mental strain on many people, and the high inflation would have a strong dampening effect.
