Vueling cabin crew strikes every weekend until February

Date:

The workers will stop on Friday, Sunday, Monday and public holidays until January 31 to demand a 13.4% pay increase for this year

Vueling cabin crew (TCP) has decided to call a strike for every Friday, Sunday, Monday and public holiday between November 1 and January 31, 2023. Their aim is to demand a 13.4% salary update for this year, as confirmed by the Stavla union (Airline Flight Auxiliary Crew Union), which ensures that this group “cannot be further immersed in the precarious salary situation in which it finds itself during the collective labor agreement negotiations.

Of the airline, they “regret” their employees’ decision, defending that “this is not the time” to divide, but to “join the effort to build the airline’s future.” And they assure the convening union’s requests at the negotiating table of the IV collective agreement reach a 33% pay increase until 2025, an “unachievable” increase for the company that could lead to layoffs. “The consequences would be the loss of our competitiveness and could include a reduction in the size of the company and a necessary reorganization,” the company warned in a statement.

In addition, note that they have already agreed to increase both the fixed and variable concepts of the TCP group by 6.5% retroactively to January 1, 2021, which would mean the payment of the associated backlogs since then.

Vueling, whose main base is at Barcelona airport, reached an agreement with the CC OO union in August to raise salaries by 6.5%, equivalent to the 2021 CPI, but Stavla distanced themselves and did not sign. Now this union is preparing mobilizations to demand a higher salary increase in the agreement negotiations and CC OO has distanced itself from this strike.

This call is in line with the strikes that the sector has had to endure all summer. Ryanair started at the start of the season and will keep it from Thursday to Sunday for its flights, although the follow-up is becoming less and less. Iberia Express and Easyjet also carried out strikes in the summer.
