The salary of a waiter is almost 18,000 euros and that of a cook 19,500

Salaries in the hospitality and tourism sector are comparable to the pre-pandemic period, despite the difficulty of finding skilled workers, according to the latest Adecco report

One of the biggest problems in the hospitality industry after the pandemic is the lack of labor. This summer of tourism boom, many businessmen have complained that they needed and could not get staff, while workers alluded to the poor working conditions in the sector. The Adecco salary guide published on Wednesday shows that a waiter in Spain earns an average of 17,670 euros gross per year, which equates to approximately 1,200 euros gross per month in 14 payments.

Cooks, one of the most in-demand groups, have an average salary of 19,550 euros gross per year, about 1,300 euros gross per month in 14 payments. From Adecco, they assure that part of the problem of the lack of staff lies in the fact that some of the professionals who devoted themselves to this profession before the pandemic “choose to retrain and work in other sectors with better Working Conditions.”

Within the hospitality industry, the highest paid profile is a chef, with an average salary of EUR 31,900 gross per year (2,270 EUR gross per month in 14 payments), followed by sales executives, who earn an average of EUR 28,500 per year.
