The tycoon continues his plans to change the social network, which, as he already announced, will charge for having a verified account
Musk continues on Twitter with his plans for change. Just a week after taking full control of the company and remaining the sole member of the social network’s board of directors, Musk announced last Monday that any user who wants to have their account verified will be charged $8 a month. . A new income system for the social network that nevertheless won’t stop Musk’s idea of firing some of the staff. Specifically, according to the Financial Times, the also owner of Tesla has the idea on the table to lay off 50% of the workers.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, this would be one of the next steps the richest man in the world will take to reform what he calls the “great public square.” However, it should be remembered that in early October, when Musk did not yet own the social network and was awaiting an agreement to process the lawsuit imposed by the previous management, the billionaire revealed to the Twitter investors who planned to lay off 75% of the workforce. This meant the termination of 5,500 employees, to a workforce of just over 2,000.
It was the billionaire himself who denied these plans to employees, who were already stressed because Twitter expected to fire part of his team even before Musk’s landing due to economic factors. Added to this was the uncertainty generated by the purchase process and negotiations between Musk and the former Twitter leadership in light of the tycoon’s allegations, which caused huge losses for Twitter.
It was because of the number of false bills that Tesla’s co-owner decided to break the $44,000 million purchase agreement he signed with the company in April and which expired on October 28.
Musk denounced that the social network’s old address didn’t provide him with the real details of fake accounts and bots, so the company, to face the allegations, put all the information they had in their hands since the platform’s inception. After back and forth, the company denounced him, although to avoid trial, Musk accepted the first agreement on October 28.
