Despite rising energy costs: Christmas lights and Co. for Christmas decorations are on the shelves of the stores as usual. Retail chains also expect demand to be the same as in previous years.
Chains of icicle lights, LED stars, light trees that light up in different colors: flipping through the brochures of the chain stores, you imagine your appearance in the run-up to Christmas, when decorations and lighting effects are part of many things.
From the garden to the balcony to the interior, whether stars, balls or reindeer – according to the motto “the lights never blink sweeter”, the motto has often been applied in recent years: it can be a little more.
“The range was ordered long before the energy discussion”
And what about this year, when everyone is talking about price increases? In any case, there is a large selection of lighting items for Christmas on the shelves of the shops. “The range has a long lead time and was ordered well in advance of the energy discussion,” says Spar spokeswoman Nicole Berkmann.
Hofer, bellaflora, Lidl and Co. emphasize that the focus is on more energy-efficient LED lamps. Whether demand will decline due to rising energy costs is difficult to say at the moment. “We assume that the demand for Christmas lights will be just as good this year as in previous years,” says food discounter Hofer, for example.
Customers want to know more about energy consumption
The fact is, the energy efficiency and longevity of a light bulb are increasingly perceived and demanded by customers – furniture stores such as the XXXLutz Group and IKEA have taken notice.
