Wrong names – Musk threatens Twitter users with a lifetime ban

Date:

After mass termination, Twitter is apparently pulling back dozens of employees. Meanwhile, some critical celebrities allowed themselves a joke. Musk responded promptly.

Elon Musk has threatened Twitter users with a lifetime ban on their accounts if they use the social media platform under a false name. This was caused by numerous celebrities who quickly changed their displayed name and tweeted as “Elon Musk”. They responded to the billionaire’s announcement that it would offer everyone verified accounts for $8 a month.

For example, American comedian Kathy Griffin’s Twitter account was suspended after she changed her username to Elon Musk and also used his profile picture. “I don’t think all presenters have been fired?” Griffin later joked about Mastodon. Like many critical Twitter users, she opened an account on the alternative social media platform last week because she disagrees with Musk’s changes to Twitter.

Musk says he wants to “democratize” the service with verified monthly subscriptions to Twitter accounts. A Twitter update for iOS devices in Apple’s App Store states that users who sign up for this new subscription called “Twitter Blue with Authentication” can get the blue check mark next to their name – “just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow”. The offering will initially be available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. However, it is still unclear when.

Twitter recalls fired employees
Meanwhile, the news caused a headache that Twitter is asking some of the employees laid off Friday to return to the SMS service. Some ex-employees were unfairly fired. Others, on the other hand, were fired before management realized that their work and experience was necessary for the company.

Twitter fired half of its employees on Friday. The team responsible for preventing the spread of misinformation and harmful content lost 15 percent of its employees.
