Spanish Friday, sale of Spanish products in the style of ‘Black Friday’

In true Black Friday style, on December 9, the event that aims to announce and promote products made in our country through discounts for 24 hours in all stores wishing to adhere to Spanish Friday, be held in Spain for the first time.

This initiative has the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Chamber of Commerce and ICEX, it already has more than 500 affiliated companies that will lower the price of their Spanish products that day to promote them. Among them are Glovo, Ruavieja, Correos, Mahou or Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and many others.

The director of España Fascinante magazine, one of those who carried out the project, Ignacio Suárez-Zuloaga, assures this newspaper that the goal is to get more than 1,000 companies to participate in this first edition. He is optimistic about the future and remembers that Black Friday took 80 years to become the phenomenon it is today and Singles’ Day, so popular especially in China, emerged in the 1990s.

The chosen date for this year is Friday, December 9, just two weeks after Black Friday (November 25) is celebrated. The reason is “to take advantage of or repurpose brands’ Black Friday campaigns and expand or recreate creativity,” says Suárez-Zuloaga. The main goal of this event is “to make people aware of the value of the products we consume in Spain”. With a discount campaign, it is always possible to attract the consumer and even more so in times of price increases, he says.

The discounts will apply to brands with all kinds of products, home, fashion, food… But also in all kinds of stores, from small stores to large stores. “The main idea is that it is an open movement that is repeated every year and supports the Spanish designation of origin,” explains Suárez-Zuloaga.

In his opinion, this is an initiative that can serve to celebrate the culture of this country by generating a movement that makes our products known, consumers know what is made in Spain and what is not in the same store and production is encouraged nationally.
