The association that did join the protests that caused distribution chaos in March, now decides in a meeting not to support them
The strike called for an indefinite period by the Platform in defense of transport on Monday is starting to drain. One of the most representative platforms in the sector, Fenadismer (National Federation of Transport Associations of Spain), decided in an extraordinary meeting held this Wednesday not to support the strike.
Representing 32,000 SMEs and freelancers in the freight transport sector with more than 60,000 vehicles, this federation supported last March the strikes led by Manuel Hernández, president of the Road Transport Platform, which greatly complicated the situation and created tensions that had major consequences for the distribution chain, where certain products are out of stock in some supermarkets for weeks.
On this occasion, he steps back after holding an extraordinary meeting to ask his employees for their views. In a statement, they assure that the measures taken do not justify this “boundary pressure” measure. They assure that the transport situation is not the same as in March and that the measures adopted at that time have allowed them to increase their rates and benefit from discounts that help offset the impact of the increase in costs.
It is the same decision that the Valencian carriers (FEVT) took this Wednesday, adding another association against the rejection already reported days ago by the National Committee for Road Transport (CNTC). Following these decisions contrary to the strike, the strikes called from Monday will not have the same effect as eight months ago.
And it is that so far the rest of the associations have rejected it and have opted for the negotiation route with the government such as the EMT, UNO and Astic organizations, which are also part of the CNTC. In addition, the UGT union released a statement on Tuesday rejecting the strike and calling for a sectoral dialogue table as it “sees no significant reasons” for this call. In this sense, he recalled that this is not a strike, but a “lockout”.
