According to insiders, Apple supplier Foxconn wants to significantly expand its iPhone capabilities in India to overcome the production problems in China caused by lockdowns and the zero-covid policy.
The Taiwan-based group plans to quadruple its workforce to 70,000 in two years at a factory it opened in India in 2019, two Indian government officials familiar with the matter said.
iPhone production suffers from corona measures
Due to the corona restrictions in China, Apple recently had to agree with its customers that the delivery of the iPhone 14 model will be delayed. Foxconn is responsible for 70 percent of iPhone production.
Most are manufactured at the factory in Zhengzhou, China, which employs approximately 200,000 people. However, currently there is only limited production due to the corona lockdowns and many workers fled the factory.
