Telemarketers, delivery drivers, shop assistants and warehouse workers are the vacancies that are hard to cover despite high unemployment
The job market is changing rapidly, more so due to the pandemic, which suddenly changed workers’ habits. One of the phenomena that has been noticed in the last two years is the increase in labor turnover, to the point that it already affects about 40% of Spanish companies, seeing their employees voluntarily leave their jobs in search of work. or even more flexibility.
This is confirmed by a report published this Monday by the staffing company Randstad, which, based on a survey of 4,800 companies from all sectors, highlights that by 2022, 38.5% of companies will have experienced an increase in turnover, while only 6.5% indicates that they have seen a decrease and half remain stable.
Behind this increase in turnover is mainly the higher number of vacancies for employees in other companies (77.2%), followed by the risk of working in a certain sector due to the pandemic and forced closures (31%), as well as the impossibility to meet employee demands, both those related to salary increases and those aimed at improving flexibility conditions such as telecommuting.
The average turnover of Spanish companies was 17% in 2022, although this figure varies greatly depending on the region and sector, with a spread well above ten points between the autonomous communities with the highest and lowest turnover levels.
Similarly, there are large differences in employee turnover by sector, as it depends on their level of exposure to the economic and labor crisis caused by the pandemic. For example, in the case of the hospitality industry, one of the sectors hardest hit by the covid crisis, almost two in three companies (63.7%) have seen their turnover increase over the past year.
On the other hand, another report from the Adecco Group highlights the paradox that, despite the high unemployment that still exists in Spain, over 12%, companies find it difficult to find certain profiles in the labor market. The sectors that are currently having the most difficulty filling all vacancies are mainly four: contact center, food delivery, logistics and retail.
More specifically, the key positions not covered are those of telephone salespeople, warehouse clerks, delivery drivers and store clerks, all of which are in high demand right now and with growth forecasts in the coming weeks due to the Christmas campaign kicking off. Black Friday discounts.
