Slovakia has given up his opposition to new Russian sanctions from the European Union. Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Thursday evening that his country “had reached as much as possible” to protect himself against possible negative consequences of the sanctions – here is the focus of the Slovaks on the natural gas facility.
Fico originally wanted to enforce an exceptional clause for his country, allowing him to carry out a contract for natural gas hearing by the Russian state -owned company Gazprom by 2034. He should have achieved this, as he explained in a Facebook video. “We have received guarantees with regard to gas supply and EU prices,” Fico said. The fundamental goal of the EU is to terminate all gas imports from Russia until January 1, 2028.
The EU committee presented the 18th sanction package against Russia last month because of the Ukraine war. In addition to the Russian export of gas and oil, the goal is also Russian banks and the armament industry. According to reports, representatives of the 27 EU member states want to meet this Friday to initiate the new sanction round.
American threat: “Serious damage to the Russian economy”
Washington recently also increased the pressure on Russian leadership. On Monday, US President Donald Trump threatened Russia with rates of around 100 percent, there was a ceasefire within 50 days -the fire in Ukraine. There was also sanctions. Trump’s spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt underlined Trump’s plans on Thursday for journalists and spoke about very high rates and also about sanctions against trading partners in Russia. “This will cause serious damage to Russia.” She added that Trump wanted the war to end with a diplomatic solution.
