The boss of the world’s largest online mail-order company Amazon, Andy Jassy, has pushed workers to further job cuts following the most recent wave of layoffs.
The personnel planning also extends to the coming year. Therefore, more jobs will be cut, Jassy explains in a memo to employees published on the website on Thursday. It was “hands down the hardest decision” in his year-and-a-half tenure as Amazon CEO, Jassy continued.
Reports: 10,000 jobs to be cut
There is currently no information on the exact size of the layoffs. According to consistent reports, the group has started cutting about 10,000 jobs this week. Amazon recently had about 1.5 million employees worldwide, most of them working in delivery and storage infrastructure.
The most recent layoffs mainly affect the loss-making devices division for Echo smart speakers and the Alexa language assistance program. Other tech companies such as Twitter and Facebook mother Meta have also recently laid off employees on a large scale.
