Patience when buying a car – many new cars will not be delivered until 2023

Date:

If you want to drive a new car next year, order now – electric cars in particular are scarce at car dealerships. An important reason is the lack of chips in production. A “Krone” Rundschau in Styria.

Please wait! If you want to buy a car now, you need one thing above all: patience. Even a lot of patience. Waiting times of almost a year are not uncommon at the moment. And it is almost secondary which drive the vehicle of choice has. Virtually no new vehicle is immediately available.

“I’ve only been in this business for 25 years, but I’ve really never experienced a situation like this,” says Gerald Kerbl, who is responsible for sales management of new cars at the traditional Styrian company Gady, and has at least lost his sense of humor not. The reason for the moderately stocked showrooms is the worldwide lack of chips. “Electric cars suffer from this even more, because even more microelectronics are installed there,” explains Kerbl.

Shorter waiting time with combustion engines
With new cars with an electric motor from “its” manufacturers, you usually have to wait until next year before you can finally press the start button. “BMW’s IX3 will be available in the fall, and the Mini E may be available this year. The rest don’t look so good.” For example, the new BMW IX will only be available in the first half of 2023. The waiting time for “combustion engines” is shorter: “With normal equipment it takes three months, but with full equipment it can be also be a year,” says Kerbl.

The situation is similar to almost all other producers. “We are currently waiting for the delivery of more than 100 cars,” reports Claudio Porcar of Autohaus Kuss in Graz. The Skoda Enyaq, one of the absolute electric favorites of Styria, is currently only available in the fourth quarter of 2023, just like the Audi Q4 e-tron! With the ID series from VW, you have to be patient until April 2023. “Of the purely electric cars, only the Audi e-tron can be delivered by us within a few months”, reports Porcar. But it will also take at least until the first quarter of 2023 for almost all new Audi cars with combustion engines.

However, if you are looking for a small electric car, you can still find it at Vogl & Co. “At the moment we are still well stocked with our top seller Zoe, but that is mainly due to our storage policy from last year,” says Renault sales manager Gernot Stani. With other models such as the Mégane E-Tech, you even have to be patient with the French for up to eight months. According to Stani, the waiting time for diesel or petrol engines is somewhat shorter.
