Even in money-loving Austria, more and more people pay by card or smartphone. An online survey of 1,000 people commissioned by Visa shows that 89 percent have already made contactless payments in stores, with mobile phone payments on the rise. Every fifth person has now made a mobile payment at the checkout. Men and young people in particular pay with their mobile phones.
According to this survey, 26 percent of men pay mobile, but only 14 percent of women. There is also a strong age difference: every third person under the age of 35, but only about every tenth person over the age of 60 has ever paid with their smartphone.
The majority also shop with their mobile phone
Not only at the checkout, but also online, many pay with their mobile device. 58 percent shop online with their smartphone or tablet. “The heavy use of online channels during the pandemic has improved the reputation of online purchases,” said Stefanie Ahammer, Country Manager Visa Austria.
Cryptocurrencies are also in demand among young people. Every third crypto owner has already paid with it. Digital currencies have found their way into wallets, especially among men (22 percent) and in the 18 to 35 age group (30 percent).
