The start-up öKlo from Wolkersdorf in the Weinviertel is busy with its sustainable toilets. Even at the World Cup in Qatar, people really wanted to have the toilets – but the organizing team was rejected. Why the large excrement trade is doing so well.
The demand for the “öKlo” composting toilets is exploding. In 2017, founder Niko Bogianzidis got the support of entrepreneur Hans Peter Haselsteiner in the Pulse 4 show “2 minutes, 2 million”, and he and his team have been in the black since 2021. Yet the expansion is only one step at a time – even the hosting team for the World Cup in Qatar was rejected, as was a mine in Chile.
