New Liliair – Carinthian airline takes off with Bombardier jets

Date:

From April 2023, Klagenfurt will have daily connections to Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. Liliair regularly connects the state capital of Carinthia with the whole of Europe with two aircraft.

For the first time in many years, Lilihill is establishing a passenger airline again, which was presented at the airport on Tuesday. Two Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft will take off, with seating for 90 passengers. The jets are rented from Lufthansa. Tickets can be pre-booked from January, home airport is Klagenfurt. Initially, 50,000 passengers per year are expected. This will enable airport operator Lilihill to achieve the required 100,000 passengers per year from 2023. Otherwise, the state and city could revoke the callback option.

Upgrade Klagenfurt as a business travel destination
“Klagenfurt will be upgraded as a destination for business travel and meetings,” says Liliair managing director Dieter Kandlhofer. “Canadian manufacturer Bombardier’s twin-engine jets, weighing 36.5 tons, have lower operating costs than comparable jet aircraft for short and medium-haul flights.” With just one booking, Liliair travels comfortably from Klagenfurt to New York via Frankfurt. Lilihill invests 26 million euros in the airline, 45 jobs are created. As a pioneer in sustainable air travel, Liliair wants to fly CO₂ neutral by 2030.

“The efficient connection to the major German hubs of Frankfurt and Munich reduces travel times enormously,” explains Peter Malanik, who developed the concept for Liliair. “Passengers get to their destination cheaper from Klagenfurt than from other airports.” In terms of pricing, Liliair follows a model based on occupancy, day of the week and class of travel.

Just 20 minutes before departure at the airport
In global air traffic, no stone was left unturned after Corona. Klagenfurt must become an airport with short waiting times. If passengers use the Fast Line service, they only need to be at the airport without luggage 20 minutes before departure. Then it’s out into the wide world. At other airports you often have to be at the airport up to three hours before departure.
