For the first time, the limit of two euros was exceeded longer. According to Wifo, the “climate-damaging” subsidies are still much too high.
On June 27, motorists paid an average of 2.10 euros per liter of Super, on July 11, diesel drivers were also asked to pay 2.09 euros – these were the highest values of this year, in which we generally pay as much as we never had to ” burn” for fuel, according to a study by the VCÖ based on data from the EU Commission.
Significant increase already at the beginning of January
The start at the beginning of January with just under 1.40 euros per liter of diesel or petrol was noticeably higher than previous years, the average for 2022 should be 1.82 euros for diesel and 1.72 euros for super accelerated to record highs (see graph) .
Wifo criticizes that the fact that refueling is currently somewhat cheaper is actually bad for climate protection. Road traffic is over-promoted: the tax break on diesel is around a billion euros, plus travel allowances and tax breaks for taxis and rental cars.
Together with the subsidies for energy producers and agriculture, such “climate-damaging” benefits already amount to more than 5.7 billion euros per year.
