Research DHL: – Online stores in Austria have some catching up to do

Date:

DHL Express Austria sees great potential for more international customers in domestic webshops. On average, about 33 percent of access to web shops comes from abroad, in individual sectors (pet supplies, jewellery) the share is significantly higher at 60 percent, according to a survey by DHL Express Austria among 17,000 Austrian web shops. However, the share can be increased, often only minor measures are needed.

“Thanks to the international orientation of local companies, Austria has coped well with many crises. However, to keep pace with global competition, there is still upside potential in Austria’s e-commerce sector,” said Ralf Schweighöfer, CEO of DHL Express Austria , in a press release Wednesday.

DHL recommends webshops in multiple languages
To attract more customers from abroad and reduce the “bounce rate” – that is the percentage of people who leave the website without interacting – webshops could be offered in multiple languages, according to DHL. So far, only 2 out of 10 online stores are available in multiple languages, while 78 percent of all stores do without foreign languages.

It would also be positive if customers could choose between multiple currencies. Currently, the majority of online shops (96 percent) only use the euro as their currency.

In general, DHL Express Austria advises merchants to pay attention to the choice of packaging materials and transport routes when it comes to sustainability, as customers place increasing importance on the subject. Furthermore, a good knowledge of your own target group is an important condition for a successful webshop.
