When it’s cold outside, many Austrians enjoy a good cup of tea. This is good for the industry, which generates a turnover of 80 million euros in Germany with the hot drink and managed to maintain the high level during the lockdowns. Now companies are looking to make steam with new tea drinks.
“Tea is no longer something you only drink when you are sick, but is increasingly becoming a pleasure for many,” says Stephan Krömer, head of the Tea Association. “Young people in particular see tea as a valuable commodity,” agrees Siegfried Kugler of Demmer’s Teehaus, whose sales grew by double digits in 2022. Society is moving towards a healthier lifestyle and this trend towards more well-being plays into the hands of companies. “You can’t ignore tea,” says Thomas Göbel of market leader Teekanne (53 percent).
