Climate minister Leonore Gewessler (Greens) wants to abolish VAT on photovoltaic systems. The model is Germany, where since this year no sales tax is levied on photovoltaic and electricity storage systems. “That’s a suggestion I’ve already put to the Treasury Secretary,” Gewessler said Tuesday. The climate and energy fund is intended as a ‘buffer’ for anyone who has not received anything from financier OeMAG.
The financing rounds via the green electricity processing center OeMAG have recently been criticized as a “lottery”. Gewessler said no one will leave empty-handed. “We want to make sure that everyone who applies for a subsidy can get one,” said the minister. “In addition to the budget in the Sustainable Energy Extension Act, there is a buffer of 118 million euros in the climate and energy fund that can be used.”
Climate and Energy Fund: Budget almost doubled
The budget of the climate and energy fund will increase to 581 million euros this year, compared to around 300 million euros last year. For photovoltaic installations alone, EUR 123 million has been reserved this year, while last year only EUR 20 million was earmarked for model and flagship projects.
