A camera with a resolution of 200 megapixels: together with the stylus and high-end processor, this is the main marketing argument for Samsung’s 1,400 euro Android flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra. You can also find such high-resolution cameras in devices around 600 to 800 euros – such as the Xiaomi 12T Pro or the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra. This begs the question of how “cheap” 200-megapixel cell phones fare compared to the luxury device.
We venture the comparison and send Samsung’s new Galaxy S23 Ultra and the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra into the photo duel: Both devices have a 200 megapixel camera that we tested under different lighting conditions – daylight, less optimal artificial and twilight. Auto mode was used, using the sensor’s resolution for so-called “pixel binning”, which combines several individual pixels into a more detailed “superpixel” and ultimately yields space-saving 12-megapixel results.
