It is only a minimal increase, but it is enough to reach a symbolic threshold: last year in Austria, women retired for the first time at the prevailing retirement age of 60 on average. Last year the value was still 59.8 years.
Just before women’s retirement age is gradually increased from next year, female insured will actually have reached the decades-old retirement age of 60. This is evident from provisional figures from the pension insurer for the year 2022, reported by the Salzburger Nachrichten.
In 2024, the gradual increase in the retirement age for women will begin
The increase in retirement age for women by 0.2 years is minimal, but twice as much as for men: they increased their average retirement age by only 0.1 years – from 61.8 to 61.9 years. As a reminder, the statutory retirement age for men is 65 and for women it will be gradually increased from 60 to 65 between 2024 and 2033.
The corridor pension, which is now only available to men, started in 2022 at the average age of 62.5 years, the cheaper but more difficult hackler scheme at 62.4 years.
New record: almost 124,000 neo-retirees
In absolute figures, 123,900 people retired last year. That was a new record.
