Years of collusion on prices, market sharing and information exchange with competitors in public and private tenders: now the Federal Competition Authority (BWB) has sentenced another construction company in Austria to a fine of 4.8 million euros.
The BWB has been investigating conspiracy in the construction sector since 2017. It is the largest cartel in the agency’s history. Now the Viennese company Pittel + Brausewetter has also been found guilty.
As the BWB announced on Wednesday, the current sentencing verdict mainly relates to illegal processes in road construction. The company has already acknowledged the facts and the amount of the fine. When assessing the fine, the BWB took into account that Pittel + Brausewetter has set up an extensive compliance system.
Leniency status for Carinthian company
Kärtner Kostmann GesmbH got away with it without a penalty. Kostmann had already submitted a leniency application in the spring of 2017. The company has cooperated continuously and extensively, so that the fine is fully waived, the BWB explains.
