A ten -year -old child from Linz went to Wolfgangsee on Sunday after a jump. An eyewitness warned the water rescuers, who could pull the boys out of the water after about ten minutes. He was flown to the hospital and is in a coma.

Witness alarmed water rescuers
During an excursion from a football club on Sunday afternoon, the boy jumped from a jetty to Lake Wolfgang in the Salzburg St. Gilgen in the Lido in the Lido and no longer appeared. “A woman came to our office and explained in English that a child had been there,” says Rudolf Pichler, local manager of the St. Gilgen Water Rescue, the “Kroon”.
Found quickly in the cloudy water
Four helpers hurried to the scene of the accident and the boys were able to quickly find despite the cloudy water – many swimming pools dragged up. “It was recovered from about three to four meters deep. We don’t know how long he was under water, the colleagues had him out of the water five to ten minutes after the alarm and started resuscitation until the emergency doctor arrived,” says De Waterredder.
Artificial ventilation
Together with the crisis intervention team, the parents drove to the University Hospital of Salzburg, where their son had flown. There he was placed in a coma and he was still artificially ventilated on Monday. Whether he wakes up again and, if so, whether neurological damage remains, the doctors do not dare to predict yet.
