Energie Steiermark is the first provincial energy company in Austria to react to the changes on the international stock exchanges and reduce the gas bill. Savings for the average consumer in 2023: about 250 euros.
Energie Steiermark is responding to the falling natural gas prices on the international stock exchanges and is reducing the natural gas bill for existing customers: from 1 May, a kilowatt hour of natural gas will be cheaper to 11.40 cents per kilowatt hour. This corresponds to a discount of 34 percent for approximately 4,000 customers (current price: 17.45 cents/kWh) and 21 percent for all other household customers (currently: 14.40 cents/kWh). In total, about 30,000 private customers and more than 2,000 small businesses will be affected by this measure, and the savings for an average household this year will be around 250 euros.
Discount initially limited to December 31
“We pass on the better environment on the international energy exchanges to our customers and thus fulfill our promise to respond fairly to the corresponding market developments,” say the two board members Christian Purrer and Martin Graf. “The extremely volatile movements in the markets will continue to be closely monitored and, if necessary, appropriate adjustment measures will be taken again in the fourth quarter.” The current reduction is therefore limited to December 31 for the time being. A possible reduction of electricity is also being considered, “the calculations are currently being made here”.
