Amazon sees further progress in the fight against the sale of counterfeit products on the platform. More than 6 million items have been seized and thrown away in the past year, the world’s largest online retailer said in a report published Tuesday. The year before, about 3 million counterfeit products had been stopped.
At the same time, Amazon recognizes that its measures have a deterrent effect. The number of accounts that “actors with bad intentions” want to create is falling. In 2020, Amazon stopped 6 million such attempts, in 2021 there were about 2.5 million and last year only 800,000. Amazon manager Dharmesh Mehta stressed that further data showed that there was indeed a decline in activity.
Amazon not only sells goods itself, but also acts as a platform for other retailers – product counterfeiters often try to use this as a gateway. That is why the group expanded the checks when setting up a dealer account, among other things. In addition, 8 billion changes to product listing pages are automatically checked for signs of abuse every day.
