Billion dollar summit – Macron welcomes Musk and other top executives

Date:

French President Emmanuel Macron launches an economic charm offensive. He meets top executives from all over the world to attract investment. Among them: Elon Musk, whom he recently clearly criticized.

French President Emmanuel Macron received multibillionaire Elon Musk at the Elysée on Monday. The Elysée announced that they had discussed “the attractiveness of France” in relation to foreign investors, without giving details.

At their last meeting in December in New Orleans, the president and the American entrepreneur had already discussed projects such as the production of electric cars and batteries.

Macron criticized Twitter boss
At the time, Macron also indirectly criticized Musk for his handling of Twitter. Macron stressed that the social network must comply with European rules. Think of transparent user conditions, moderating content and protecting freedom of expression. Musk was criticized after introducing new rules on Twitter that made spreading disinformation easier.

Macron promotes investment
Macron wants to meet about 200 heads of international companies in Versailles on Monday afternoon. It is the sixth edition of the investor meeting he initiated under the English title “Choose France”.

Investments of 13 billion euros are announced this year, about half of which will be in renewable energy, nuclear energy and batteries.

Musk steps down as Twitter boss
Musk recently announced his retirement as Twitter boss. Musk’s six months as “Head of Twitter” were marked by chaos and controversy. After a series of highly controversial decisions, the headwind increased.

His December resignation announcement followed a self-initiated Twitter poll in which about 57.5 percent of participants supported his resignation. Musk had previously assured that he would abide by the result of the vote.

Advertising expert Linda Yaccarino takes over. Yaccarino was responsible for global advertising operations at NBC Universal. The group includes the American broadcaster NBC and the streaming service Peacock.
