The CFO of the Daimler truck group, Jochen Goetz (52), passed away over the weekend. His company speaks of a “tragic accident”, but is silent about the cause of death. A report was published on Tuesday indicating an allergic reaction to a wasp sting.
As the newspaper “Bild” reported online, the manager often carried an emergency kit against wasp stings because of his allergy. However, it remains unclear whether this Saturday was also with him when Goetz is said to have been bitten by the insect. The newspaper refers to the environment of the 52-year-old.
As reported, German truck maker Daimler Truck’s announcement on Sunday said its manager “suddenly and unexpectedly (…) died”. Further details were not given. “The death of Jochen Goetz is a huge loss for Daimler Truck, both personally and professionally,” said Martin Daum, CEO of Daimler Truck. Goetz had completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at the then Mercedes-Benz AG, later studied part-time and worked his way up to the group’s board of directors.
He was there for about two years and brought the truck and bus division, which had been spun off from Daimler, to the stock exchange. According to the “Handelsblatt”, Goetz made sure to cut his own costs and keep the sale of the vehicles lucrative.
According to “Bild,” it’s unclear who knew about Goetz’s possible wasp allergy at Daimler Truck. About 3 to 3.5 percent of all people in Germany would have an allergic reaction to the venom of wasps or bees. After the sting, the body then increasingly releases the messenger substance histamine. As a result, the blood vessels dilate and vital organs are no longer supplied with oxygen.
