In August, 320,759 people were registered as unemployed or in training with the AMS. Compared to the previous year, this means an increase in the number of job seekers by 11,328 people, the Ministry of Labor and Economy announced on Friday.
The unemployment rate rose to 6.1 percent. At the end of August 2022, this was still 5.9 percent.
Positive development among the long-term unemployed
Overall, however, the labor market appears to be robust despite the weaker economic momentum, said Labor Minister Martin Kocher (ÖVP) on current figures. Particularly gratifying is the development of long-term unemployment, which has almost halved since its peak in April 2021, when it stood at 148,436 people, and currently stands at 75,251 people.
