In August, fuel prices were even higher than in July. According to the ÖAMTC, a tank of 50 liters of petrol cost 79 euros at the start of the holiday period, but 83 euros in August. The price increase for a tank of diesel was even greater.
While you had to pay four euros more for 50 liters of diesel than in August, the price for the same amount of diesel increased by six euros to 84 euros in the same period. Diesel therefore costs more than premium petrol.
ÖAMTC demands an explanation from the mineral oil industry
The criticism comes from the ÖAMTC. The price increases in Austria are significantly higher than in other EU countries and also stronger than the oil price increase, the motorists’ club announced on Wednesday – and asked the mineral oil industry for an explanation.
Nevertheless, fuel prices were well below the level of the previous year. In July 2022, diesel was 24.8 percent cheaper, premium gasoline 23.6 percent, which was also reflected in the inflation rate.
