On Wednesday morning another fire broke out at the OMV refinery in Schwechat. Video recordings passed to the “Krone” show the flames on the company premises. OMV confirmed the incident.
The fire is said to have broken out around 9:40 a.m., the background is unclear. At the request of ‘Krone’, OMV confirmed the fire: ‘SAll security measures were taken immediately; the affected system was decommissioned. The environment and people have not been endangered in any way. All other plants of the Schwechat refinery are operating normally.”
Cause of fire unknown
The cause of the fire is unknown. Whether the fire caused major damage is still under investigation.
A fire in Schwechat last year caused huge problems in the refinery. For a long time the factory could only run partially and in the short term there were even diesel bottlenecks. It was not until the autumn that full operation could be resumed.
