Due to missing engine parts, the first services are canceled at VW in Wolfsburg

Date:

Due to a lack of engine parts from Slovenia, Volkswagen now has to adjust production in Wolfsburg. “From Monday, September 11, individual services will be canceled at the Wolfsburg plant,” a spokesperson said. The reason is the recent flood in Slovenia, which affected a motorcycle parts supplier.

Production was also scaled back in Emden and Osnabrück. The Portuguese factory in Palmela near Lisbon even announced that it would completely stop assembly for a maximum of two months from next Monday. According to the company, gears for the drivetrain of combustion engines are now missing. However, electric cars are not affected.

Affected employees with reduced working hours
According to the spokesperson, all four assembly lines are alternately affected by the disruptions in Wolfsburg, where the Golf and Tiguan are mainly built. “The reduced driving style will initially apply for three weeks.” But it always remains a matter of individual services. “There is never a day when all services are canceled and the factory comes to a complete standstill.” The affected employees are taking short-time work.

Services are also canceled in Osnabrück
A week ago, production in Emden was scaled back. According to VW, some services in Osnabrück have also been canceled since September 6. At VW Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, where disruptions were also announced from this week, production will still be normal on Monday, a VW spokesperson explained upon request. But failures are also looming there.

Last week, VW purchasing director Dirk Große-Loheide expressed confidence that the supply bottleneck would be resolved quickly. He announced on the sidelines of the IAA Mobility car show in Munich that a plan on how to proceed would be ready by the end of September. “At the end of the year the problem was solved.”
