It is rarely so cheerful in the Federal Chancellery: On Wednesday evening, State Secretary for Youth Claudia Plakolm (ÖVP) received the Austrian student champions and young specialists. At the European Championships in Gdansk (Poland), our youngsters won no fewer than 18 medals.
The 44 participants from Austria won seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals at this year’s European Professional Championships in Gdansk, Poland. Austria thus won the title of strongest nation in Europe. From roofers to landscapers to pastry chefs, the winners received their medals, many in dirndls and lederhosen.
Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who also wanted to attend the ceremony, had to cancel at short notice due to current events in Israel.
Enthusiastic cries of “Austria, Austria”.
The highlight of the reception in the conference hall was a ritual with which the participants gave each other courage and strength prior to the competitions. They stood in a circle and enthusiastically shouted ‘Austria’ over and over again.
State Secretary for Youth Plakolm, who looked over the shoulders of the masters in their field in Gdansk, praised their efforts and determination. “Austria is a world power when it comes to apprenticeships and young specialists. We can be proud of our European champions.”
