Data breach revealed: – Employees of American car manufacturer Tesla walk away

Date:

Tesla has long been considered a model company. However, repeated accusations made it clear that not everything is always a joy. A data breach should now reveal that the company simply replaced 70 percent of its employees in 2018.

But then the fluctuation of personnel continued, the Handelsblatt reported on Friday. In 2021 this was around 40 percent. The newspaper talks about the so-called Tesla files: a dataset of 100 gigabytes and more than 23,000 files, which, according to a former Tesla employee, were freely accessible within the company.

The dataset is entitled “Termination Master Report”, i.e. a report on the termination of employees. According to Handelsblatt, the names of nearly 200,000 former Tesla employees who left the company between 2007 and early 2022 are included.

Procedure already opened
As the newspaper further reported, the dataset concerns numerous supervisors. The Dutch data protection authority, which is responsible in Europe because Tesla has its European headquarters there, started a procedure in May, to which twenty other authorities from different countries have now joined. In the US, the attorneys general of at least five states were involved.

Increase in serious industrial accidents
Tesla is considered the world’s leading electric car manufacturer. In Germany, the company opened its first factory in Grünheide, Brandenburg in 2022. In September there were media reports of irregularities at the factory, including a number of serious industrial accidents. The IG Metall union made serious accusations against the company.
