Tesla competitor Rivian will not only sell its electric vans to Amazon in the future, but also to other interested parties. The world’s largest online retailer will receive a total of 100,000 of the vehicles as planned, Rivian announced on Tuesday. To date, Amazon has more than 10,000 Rivian vans in its fleet. Amazon is also a major shareholder in Rivian.
Rivian increased its production forecast for the entire model range for this year from 52,000 to 54,000 vehicles. In the past quarter, the company produced more than 16,300 cars.
Also pick-up and SUV in the range
In addition to the van, Rivian also builds an electric pick-up and an SUV. Pickups are a particularly popular vehicle category in the US, which until now has been dominated by combustion models from the big three car companies. Tesla, Elon Musk’s electric car pioneer, plans to compete with them soon with its ‘Cybertruck’ pickup.
Rivian’s quarterly revenue rose to $1.34 billion from $536 million a year earlier. The loss fell from $1.72 to $1.37 billion. The share temporarily rose 1.3 percent in after-hours trading.
