At the post office, at associations, etc. – 58 bosses of state-owned enterprises earn more than chancellors

Date:

58 bosses in companies with federal involvement make significantly more money than the Chancellor.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) earned almost 320,000 euros gross in 2022. Every two years, the Court of Audit takes stock of how much board members and directors of state-owned enterprises collect: 58 are in some cases well above the chancellor’s salary.

At the top are the board members of Post (1.99 million euros per capita per year) and Verbund (1.46 million euros). The federal government owns 50 percent of each of the two publicly traded companies. The ÖBB and its subsidiaries or ÖBAG (see table) also pay the usual top salaries in the private sector.

Here you can see the salaries of bosses in public companies such as the post office and ÖBB.

The average for the bosses of all 452 companies surveyed was 219,000 euros per year. The share of women in management has increased to approximately 24 percent. The 260,000 employees in all state-owned companies received an average gross salary of 60,200 euros, and at ORF even 91,000 euros.
