KV cut – climate card for metalworking students for free

Date:

The collective labor agreements of metal workers were tightened on Friday. From January, the 18,000 students will receive up to 16.5 percent more wages and a climate ticket. The latter is not laid down in any other collective labor agreement in Austria.

The climate ticket for the whole of Austria costs 821 euros per year for young people and is valid on most public transport. Seniors and people with disabilities also pay this price. Normally 1095 euros must be paid.

In the Metaller-KV, student incomes have also been gradually increased over the years. In the first year, the young professionals receive 932 euros as a result of the KV increase, in the second and third years the increase is 8.5 percent. The increase in the fourth year is 7.8 percent.

The increase is adjusted to inflation
A total of 110,000 employees in the metal sector will receive 8.5 percent higher KV minimum wages and 8.2 percent higher actual wages from January (this means that wages are higher than prescribed in the KV, please note). Allowances and expense reimbursements will also increase by 8.5 percent. According to the union, it was also agreed that overtime compensation for the eleventh and twelfth hour or after the 50th hour per week would be increased from 75 to 100 percent.

From January 1, 2025, collective minimum wages will increase with advancing inflation. Actual wages will be increased by the inflation rate plus 0.5 percent. The period between November 2023 and October 2024 is considered.

The minimum wage is 2242.45 euros
The minimum wage will be 2,242.45 euros from January 2024. “For a young skilled worker, this means an increase of about 220 euros per month,” says PRO-GE chief negotiator Reinhold Binder. The total package secures purchasing power while taking into account the challenging economic situation of many small businesses.
