Finding suitable personnel has been the biggest problem in the local economy for some time. The ideas for this range from working at retirement age, more full-time work, vocational training in companies to more incentives for staff from third EU countries.
There is no doubt about it: Austrian companies cannot find enough workers – and the situation will continue to deteriorate. Karlheinz Kopf, Secretary General of the Austrian Economic Chamber: “There are currently approximately 185,000 vacancies unfilled. 82 percent of companies indicate that they are experiencing a serious labor shortage in all sectors. This often means that they cannot realize business opportunities, have to scale back production and suffer a loss of turnover.”
